Overview

In our never-ending quest to demonstrate how applying creativity to the gestational stages of a business / product / brand can lead to better outcomes, Bullish is in search of a unique Creative Director. We are looking for someone who has a talent for developing ideas that are worth people talking about, and a disdain for selling things that will do little more than win awards. We need a person with strong opinions - weakly held - with an infectious energy that can inspire all. 

As the Creative Director at Bullish you will be responsible for every Creative process we undergo. You will need to be able to jump in on execution to close a gap with your particular craft AND you will step back and push talent and teams to do the unexpected. You need to champion what really good Advertising / Art / Copy / Design / Marketing does for people and brands alike.

One part strategic brand agency and one part early-stage consumer investment firm, Bullish is designed for businesses living early in the S-Curve. These are the moments - no matter the company's size or scale - where ambition and ambiguity walk hand in hand. What does that mean?  It means we are writing the briefs. We are developing a lot of ideas. We are fighting for them. We are de-risking them. And we are throwing it all out if it’s not working. You need to be confident in your ability to come at it with a fresh POV based on new information; you need to be able to spin a lot of plates at once. You will flex across all types of projects: one day you’ll be overseeing the development of a brand book, another you’ll be conjuring up an activation idea while coming from an edit, the next you’ll be in a work session with Strategists / Clients / Investments ingesting insights in real time and "whiteboarding" potential ideas. A day in the life at Bullish is filled with a LOT of context switching. It’s stimulating. It’s challenging. It’s not easy. But we line up as a team and we play to win.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities are, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Lead the development of Concepts, Ideas, Advertising, Marketing, Innovation, Activations (and whatever else might do the trick) that are worth people talking about

    • Be the ultimate Creative voice in presentations, articulating creative rationale in a compelling, strategic way (pushing back when necessary)

  • Manage Leads and/or Associates to help them grow within the Bullish environment while helping them execute their primary responsibilities:

    • Push ideation to the outermost edge of the strategy

    • Challenge design to be loaded with concept but not derivative of the time

    • Elevate our writing to a level of human-simplicity that is sneaky-sophisticated

  • Oversee and refine visual identities, ensuring brands feel cohesive and distinctive across all channels (digital, packaging, advertising, retail, etc.)

  • Partner with external talent (photographers, illustrators, animators, and production teams) to bring creative concepts to life

  • Provide ongoing Creative counsel / support to our portfolio companies in first 100 days sessions, in webinars and at key points in their journey

  • Partner with cross-functional teammates in the development and execution of SOWs

  • Cultivate our Creative POV inside and outside of Bullish

Experience

Some past experiences are a must and some are icing on the cake:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience working as a Creative

  • Must have developed great advertising in an agency across a wide variety of categories

  • Must love design and know how to lead / push / inspire designers (need not be a designer)

  • Must really like experimenting with AI (it’s okay if you are a little scared of it) 

  • Bonus if you have worked in an Innovation Agency on product / service design

  • Bonus if you have worked client / brand-side in a DTC Start-Up that went from 0 to scale

  • Ability to dig into creative ideas - find the kernel - make it more

  • Exceptional presentation skills with a gift for compelling storytelling 

  • Natural talent for leading projects and enrolling others into the work you are delivering
